Monolithic Slab Foundation
A monolithic slab is a single, continuous structure poured on-site during construction in Phuket. Unlike a prefabricated foundation, it has no joints or seams, providing maximum strength for the building's base.
**Types of Installation:**
* Simple (made of concrete or rubble concrete);
* Reinforced (made of reinforced concrete).
The use of rebar significantly increases the foundation's strength and resistance to structural loads and soil pressure. This type of foundation is the most reliable. It is suitable for building houses on weak, waterlogged, and sandy soils, with a high groundwater level and significant soil movement. While a monolithic slab foundation offers maximum reliability, it requires a higher consumption of concrete and reinforcement. Simple foundations are much cheaper to install but have lower reliability and strength indicators.
**Monolithic Insulated Slab (MIS)**
A variation of the slab foundation in Thailand is the Monolithic Insulated Slab (MIS). Thanks to the use of waterproofing and thermal insulation materials, it possesses high energy efficiency and can be installed on various ground conditions.
The application area for monolithic foundations is quite broad. They are primarily used in private low-rise construction, when basement spaces are needed, and on weak or non-uniform soils.
**Advantages of a Monolithic Foundation:**
* Reliability and strength
* Great flexibility for architectural solutions
* No need for heavy lifting equipment
The construction technology is determined primarily by the type of foundation and its design.
Construction of monolithic foundations begins with precise site layout. For shallow foundations, it is sufficient to dig trenches or remove the topsoil layer; for deep foundations, excavation of a pit is required. Next, a drainage system is installed to divert groundwater, and waterproofing is applied. Strip and slab foundations are built on a sand bed. To give the concrete structures the required shape, formwork is erected. Before concreting, the reinforcement specified in the project is installed. Slab foundations require spatial reinforcement cages. The concreting technology in Phuket, Thailand, is also defined by the project's specific requirements.
