Plasterboard is a sheet material comprised of a gypsum core encased in paper facings, making it indispensable for contemporary renovation in Phuket's tropical climate.
Moisture-resistant plasterboard, identifiable by its green facing paper, is essential for bathrooms, kitchens, and any high-humidity areas as it incorporates fungicidal additives. Standard plasterboard should be reserved solely for dry, climate-controlled rooms. Fire-rated plasterboard is a requirement for commercial premises to comply with stringent safety regulations.

For condominiums, specify moisture-resistant board throughout, excluding perhaps dry bedrooms. In villas, consider enhanced framing systems for vaulted ceilings. Commercial fit-outs must utilise certified fire-rated boards and components.
All plasterboard must be conditioned on-site for a minimum of 48 hours prior to fixing. It is crucial to incorporate perimeter and control joints and to use moisture-tolerant jointing compounds. Effective ventilation is paramount and can significantly extend the lifespan of the installation.
