Phuket, building materials
Plasterboard is a sheet material comprised of a gypsum core encased in paper facings, making it indispensable for contemporary renovation in Phuket's tropical climate.
Moisture-resistant plasterboard, identifiable by its green facing paper, is essential for bathrooms, kitchens, and any high-humidity areas as it incorporates fungicidal additives. Standard plasterboard should be reserved solely for dry, climate-controlled rooms. Fire-rated plasterboard is a requirement for commercial premises to comply with stringent safety regulations.
The industry-standard sheet size is 2400mm x 1200mm, with common thicknesses of 12.5mm for walls and 9.5mm for ceilings. We supply products from leading manufacturers such as Knauf and British Gypsum, whose systems are rigorously tested for performance in humid environments.
Plasterboard allows for clean, rapid drylining, which helps mitigate mould risk when installed correctly. The gypsum core naturally moderates indoor humidity. Successful installation, however, depends on using galvanised metal studwork and ensuring adequate ventilation.
For condominiums, specify moisture-resistant board throughout, excluding perhaps dry bedrooms. In villas, consider enhanced framing systems for vaulted ceilings. Commercial fit-outs must utilise certified fire-rated boards and components.
All plasterboard must be conditioned on-site for a minimum of 48 hours prior to fixing. It is crucial to incorporate perimeter and control joints and to use moisture-tolerant jointing compounds. Effective ventilation is paramount and can significantly extend the lifespan of the installation.
Our suppliers provide complete, compatible systems—including Knauf or British Gypsum boards, galvanised metalwork, specialised fasteners, and technical guidance for installation in tropical conditions. We offer precise take-offs and quantity surveys to ensure material efficiency.
